Excitement as Governor Malombe's Cup Kicks off With Electric Energy


There is excitement in the air. And soccer fields are filling up for Governor Julius Malombe's cup 

The Governor's cup is steadily gaining momentum, with the grassroots turning into buzzing football arenas where enthusiastic footballers lace up their boots for electrified football clashes.


The tournament started by Governor Dr. Julius Malombe is featuring female and male football teams which are competing from village levels aiming at the county level competition where a winner will be declared. 


"The Governor's tournament aims to nurture youth talent, promote cohesion as well as strengthen community engagement" stated Phoebe Mutemi, the County Minister for Culture, Gender, Youth, ICT, Sports & Social Services. 


The Sub-county action kicks off in Mwingi North and Mwingi Central on February 14–15, 2026, with matches set for Kyuso Playgrounds and Waita Market Playgrounds, where fans will be watching keenly.


The Football fever will then shift to Kitui East and Kitui South on February 21–22, 2026, with games hosted at Mwitika Primary, Mwitika Mixed, Kikuu Primary, Kaling’a Primary, Mutomo Stadium, KMTC Mutomo, and St. Patrick’s Playgrounds.


At Kitui Central, the action will be witnessed on February 28 to March 1, 2026. Mwingi West and Kitui West will be on March 7 - 8, 2026 with action at Nguutani secondary school, Kauwi and Katheka primary school grounds. 


The final mega clash will be at the world class Ithookwe Stadium in March where the top teams be awarded cash prizes and trophies.
